Sula Peak

Overviews

Sulu Peak is a non-technical, relatively less-explored 6000-meter peak situated in the stunning Charakusa Valley of the Karakoram Range in northern Pakistan. It’s a trekking peak and an ideal destination for mountaineers looking for an adventure off the beaten path. The Charakusa Valley is famous for its dramatic landscapes, with towering granite peaks, glaciers, and an incredible range of alpine ecosystems. The journey typically starts from Hushe village, which is the gateway to various famous peaks, including Masherbrum and the Charakusa range. Reaching Sulu Peak involves trekking through scenic valleys, camping near glaciers, and acclimatizing properly to handle the altitude. The climb itself doesn’t require advanced technical skills, but it does require solid trekking and mountaineering experience due to the altitude and terrain.

The drive follows the rugged Indus River valley and ascends through charming villages, offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks. Arrive at Hushe village, a small settlement at the end of the road, known as the gateway to several trekking routes in the Karakoram Range.

Begin your trek from Hushe towards Jhola, which is located at around 3,200 meters (10,500 feet). The trek takes you through the scenic Hushe Valley, passing through small villages and grazing meadows. The valley opens up to views of Masherbrum, Charakusa Glacier, and many other surrounding peaks.

Continue your trek up the Charakusa Valley. The route takes you through rocky terrain and across several streams. You will pass through alpine meadows and enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks. Paiju is a popular camping spot, located at around 3,400 meters (11,150 feet).

The landscape is stark and otherworldly. Spend the night at a high-altitude campsite near the glacier (around 4,300 meters or 14,107 feet).

Trek towards the Base Camp of Sulu Peak, located at around 4,800 meters (15,748 feet). The trail passes through rugged terrain with rocky slopes, and you’ll begin to feel the altitude more as you approach Base Camp. The views are breathtaking, with the surrounding peaks towering above you.
