K12 Peak 7,665 meters (25,148 ft)

Overviews

K12, also known as Chogolisa, is a mountain peak located in the Karakoram range of the Himalayas, in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. The peak has an elevation of 7,665 meters (25,148 ft) and is considered one of the most beautiful peaks in the Karakoram range. K12 is also considered to be one of the most challenging peaks to climb in the world, due to its steep and technical terrain. The first ascent of K12 was made in 1974 by a Japanese expedition led by Yoshio Ogata. The team consisted of 10 climbers, including Tsuneo Shigehiro, Y. Ishizaka, and H. Watanabe. The ascent of K12 was considered a major achievement in mountaineering history, as it was one of the first successful ascents of a peak above 7,600 meters (24,934 ft) in the Karakoram range. Since the first ascent, numerous attempts have been made to climb K12, but very few have been successful. The climbing route to the peak is extremely challenging, and climbers need to have a high level of technical skill and experience to attempt it. The route includes steep ice and rock climbing, with technical sections that require careful navigation and a high level of physical fitness. Despite its challenges, K12 continues to attract some of the world's best climbers, and numerous attempts are made every year to climb the peak. The mountain is also a popular destination for trekking and hiking, and there are several trekking routes that lead to the base of the mountain. The trek to K12 base camp offers stunning views of the mountain and its surrounding glaciers and is a popular choice for adventure enthusiasts.
