K7 Peak (6,935m) Expedition

Overviews

K-7, also known as Saraska Peak, is located in the Baltistan region of Northern Pakistan. It rises to an elevation of 6,935 meters (22,749 feet) above sea level and is situated within the Saltoro and Masherbrum ranges of the Karakoram Mountains. The peak was first surveyed by the Harvard Mountaineering Club in 1955. The expedition to K-7 typically begins from Hushe Valley, which lies in the southern part of the Baltoro Glacier region. Hushe Valley serves as the gateway to the southern faces of the Karakoram peaks and mountains. The Karakoram range itself is a vast mountain chain that stretches 500 kilometers in length and 200 kilometers in width, connecting Pakistan and China. It is home to some of the world's highest peaks, including K2, Gasherbrum, and Nanga Parbat. The range also links to the Hindu Kush and Himalaya mountain systems at certain points. K-7 was first successfully summited in 2011 by a Slovenian mountaineer, Urban Novak, along with two Americans, Kyle Dempster and another climber. The team approached the peak via a new route from the eastern face of K-7. Despite challenging weather conditions, they successfully reached the summit without incident. The first successful expedition to K-7 was conducted by the Japan Ski Club. During this 1980 ascent, three of the eight members reached the summit on the first day, while two others completed the ascent the following day. In addition to K-7, the region is home to a number of other notable peaks, including K6, Kapura Peak, Niza Peak, and Drifika Peak. Other possible routes to K-7 include approaches via the Tagas, Kaberi, and Dumsum Glaciers from the Khapulu region in Baltistan. Services for a K-7 expedition typically include hotel accommodations, necessary government permits (as the peak is above 7,000 meters), domestic flights, chefs, tour guides, visa assistance, porters, camping equipment, daily meals, and kitchen tools.
